Registration Clerk (part-time)
WARREN GENERAL HOSPITAL IS ADDING A PART-TIME REGISTRATION CLERK TO OUR TEAM!
This position has a variable schedule including days, evenings and overnights shifts, as well as regular weekends and holidays.
JOB DUTIES:
Greet and direct patients and visitors upon his/her arrival.
Contact physician on call as needed.
Schedule patient admissions/services received through physicians’ offices or the Emergency Care Center.
Obtain required information to preregister/register patient from either the physician’s office or the patient.
Arrange for preadmission testing as necessary, including autologous blood donations
Verify precertification/authorization have been obtained prior to the service and enter information.
Procure necessary patient signatures as required by third party payers, including but not limited to, assignment of benefits, Consent to Treat, etc.
Discuss with patient the different protocols his/her insurance may require in a professional manner. (MSP form for example)
Perform all related registration functions such as distribution of registration forms as well as banding patients.
Verify insurance benefits for designated services prior to the service date using insurance verification software. Must maintain 98% accuracy.
Ability to calculate and collect copays at time of service and process payments on outstanding accounts using iPayx.
Responsible to collect deductible and coinsurance as instructed by the Financial Counselor.
Answer calls on the Telephone for the Deaf
Escort patients to his/her destination, if needed.
Cover switchboard for breaks and lunches.
Function as switchboard operator from 8:00 pm to 7:30 am Monday through Friday as well as all day Saturday, Sunday, and Holidays.
Responsible for initiating emergency protocol using overhead paging.
Enter ICD-10 codes into system as appropriate for medical necessity.
Enters patient charges as required for Emergency Care Center.
Maintain database for lab standing orders.
File orders in Docuware.
Appropriately address the Financial Responsibility form for self-pay patients.
Maintain a working knowledge of multiple Meditech modules. For example, Scheduling, Admissions, Order Entry, and Medical Records Module.
Scan patients ID, insurance cards, orders, consents and all related forms for Electronic Legal Record.
Maintain the ability to recognize and correct the wrong selection of the patient from the Master Patient Index during the triage process.
Handle police and legal blood alcohol testing, order and complete legal forms.
Receive and count cash daily; register cash amounts and accounts.
Work online for insurance verification of eligibility and to inquire about the patient’s authorization status.
Ability to recognize contracted payers as well as Medicaid, Medicaid replacements, Medicare, Medicare replacements, and Medicare supplements.
Obtain NPI numbers for non-facility physicians.
Ability to follow department and infection control policies and procedures
WORK/ EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
High school graduate or equivalent required.
Secondary education in medical field preferred.
Good understanding of medical terminology; will be tested.
45 wpm minimum typing skill with high accuracy; will be tested.
Basic computer proficiency is required.
Excellent communication and customer service skills, including telephone etiquette.
Able to handle stress and function professionally.
Willingness to work flexible hours and accept flexible assignments as needed.
