Warren General Wednesday, a look into treating and managing lymphedema related to breast cancer.

Today we meet Alisa Wagner, MOT, OTR/L. Alisa is an occupational therapist who treats and manages lymphedema in breast cancer patients. Treatment involves a comprehensive, individualized approach focused on reducing swelling and improving function. This typically includes techniques such as manual lymphatic drainage (MLD), which gently stimulates lymphatic flow, and the use of compression garments to prevent fluid accumulation. Education is also crucial; patients are taught self-care techniques, including skin care and proper exercise routines that promote lymphatic health. Additionally, she will assess and address any contributing factors, such as obesity or inactivity, to tailor a holistic management plan. Empowering patients with knowledge and practical tools helps them take an active role in their care, ultimately enhancing their quality of life. Join us as we learn more about our lymphedema program here at RehabWorks in Warren General Hospital.
